Painting En Plein Air
I just had the pleasure of spending a day on a farm in Bath County, Virginia, with 15 other artists. This was for the Bath County Arts Association annual show and their first plein air event. What an amazing day! We started at 7:30AM and I had my first painting done and framed by 10:30AM. My second one was not quite so easy - I worked on it for probably 3 hours - and didn't even know that I had set myself up to paint right under a giant hornet's nest! Somehow the hornets let me paint in peace and I had another ok painting by the time we were done. What a great experience for me - my first paint-out and I sold both works! I will definitely apply to other plein air painting competitions down the road. I just spent a week painting in Staithes, Yorkshire UK with Lori Putnam and 12 other artistists, and I feel like I turned a corner with my plein air work. So on to new things!
